There are few foods which aren't improved when covered in batter and deep fried: a crisp golden exterior, harbouring a hot, fresh delicacy is a well-hashed way to feed - and please - a crowd.

The delightfully alliterative Whangarei Fritter Festival is a showcase of gourmet fritters crafted by Northland's favourite cafes and restaurants, washed down with fine New Zealand wine. Beloved Kiwi bands Salmonella Dub and Elemeno P are among the artists who will perform, and, for the young and young at heart, there's a giant waterslide. Now in its sixth year, the festival continues noble tradition of awards for Best Fritter and People's Choice.
